William Farshee

Billy Farshee, a native Alabamian has enjoyed art since he was a boy.  His love for art was expanded, after leaving the Navy, when he took a few art classes.  After marrying  Joyce Leonard and starting a family,  he delighted his children with drawings of cartoon characters and dabbling in acrylic painting.

Billy’s acrylic winter landscapes were a precursor to his later oil painting landscapes and seascapes.  He also took up woodworking and used his skills with acrylics on his woodcrafts.  He enjoyed success at several tri-county arts and crafts shows.

As a basically self-taught artist, he has always painted but became more serious when he retired after 43 years from the railroad.   It was then that his focus moved from acrylics to oil paints.  He observed various techniques from other artists, including watching Bob Ross on TV and taking an art class on the Ross style at a local arts and crafts store.  The subject of Billy's oil paintings includes mountain scenes, landscapes, seascapes, and animals.

As a member of the Elmore County Art Guild for several years, Billy has won the People’s Choice award and second place at two different shows.

Billy has four children, four grandchildren, and three great grandsons.
